New York warms up for Five-Boro Bike Tour
2 Mar 2009
People planning to visit New York in May will be given the opportunity to see the city in an unusual but invigorating way in the Five-Boro Bike Tour.
This event will be held on 3 May this year and will feature some 30,000 people touring the city on bikes, making it the largest recreational cycling event in America.
Covering a total of 42 miles, the route begins in lower Manhattan and heads north to Central Park before passing through Harlem and the Bronx.
After returning south along the river, participants will ride through Queens and Brooklyn to cross the Verrazano-Narrows bridge to Staten Island.
Places are limited on the tour, so people who would be interested in taking part should register on the Bike New York website as soon as possible.
Those not participating will still be able to visit locations around the city to see the impressive sight of 30,000 passing cyclists.
Bike New York is also organising cycling tours to take place in Harlem, Long Island and New Jersey later this year.
