Plenty for petrolheads to enjoy in Barcelona

5 Mar 2009

Lovers of all things car- and motorsport-related will have plenty to keep them entertained during trips to Barcelona in May.

Spain will play host to the fifth race in the 2009 Formula One World Championship at the Circuit de Catalunya, which is just outside Barcelona, on 10 May following races in Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Sakhir.

Kimi Raikkonen was the victorious driver in Catalonia last year and he will be looking to repeat his achievement in May against strong competition from the likes of Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

Formula One will return to Spain in August when the Grand Prix of Europe is held on Valencia's street circuit.

After enjoying the grand prix, visitors to Barcelona will be able to attend the city's International Motor Show, which will be celebrating its 90th anniversary at the Fira de Barcelona venue between 9 and 17 May.

The 2009 edition of the show has been designated an 'event of exceptional public interest', an honour previously given to occasions such as the Barcelona Olympic Games and the Seville Universal Exposition.
