Germany's theme parks to boast new attractions

Holidaymakers planning trips in Germany this year will be able to enjoy a number of new rides and attractions at several of the country's amusement parks.

At Europapark, Germany's leading theme park, a new 'catapult-coaster' will be launched, boasting three full 360-degree rolls and speeds of up to 100km per hour.

Hansa Park near Lubeck will open on 9 April with the new Curse of Novgorod ride, which will take passengers on a journey through an accurate replica of the Kremlin of Novgorod.

Visitors to Hamburg can head to the nearby Heide-Park Soltau to explore the new Valley of the Maya area, which is set to open in April.

In Germany's Bavaria region, Legoland Gunzburg will open its gates on 4 April with a new Atlantis-themed attraction for this season, complete with interactive Lego models and an underwater glass tunnel.

Getting wet will be one of the most popular activities at Phantasialand near Cologne this year when it opens Wakobato, which is described as a 'splash-battle style' water attraction.

It was recently announced that the Tibidabo amusement park in Barcelona had opened for the 2009 season with a brand new rollercoaster.
