Marley and Me 'to boost Palm Beach tourism'

10 Mar 2009

The new romantic comedy Marley & Me starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson is expected to benefit the tourism industry in Palm Beach County, Florida, where it was filmed.

Based on the best-selling novel by John Grogan, the film tells the story of two newlyweds who move from Michigan to south Florida and start their new life by buying a cute but cheeky puppy.

The movie was largely filmed on the beaches of Briny Breezes in Palm Beach County, which is some 70 miles north of Miami and 150 miles south of Orlando.

According to the local tourist board, Marley & Me will put Palm Beach 'firmly on the holiday destination wish list'.

There are plenty of luxury hotels situated along the seafront in the Briny Breezes area, including the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach, a Four Seasons resort and the Brazilian Court, which was Aniston's choice for accommodation during filming.

Local attractions include Palm Beach Zoo, the South Florida Science Museum and the Kravis Center for Performing Arts.

VisitBritain recently said that it expects new film The Young Victoria to provide a major boost to the number of people visiting heritage destinations in England this year.
