IHG to build world's biggest Holiday Inn

11 Mar 2009

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced a deal with Crocus Group that will lead to the construction of the world's biggest Holiday Inn hotel in Moscow.

Work on the 1,000-bedroom hotel in the developing Krasnogorsk area of Moscow will start in 2011 and is scheduled for completion in 2014.

In addition to its guest rooms, the new establishment will boast meeting facilities covering an area of 2,500 square metres, three restaurants and a 1,200-square-metre health club.

With seven properties already open in Russia and a further 13 in development, IHG is reportedly the country's largest international hotel operator.

Kirk Kinsell, the hotel chain's president in Europe, said: 'Ten years ago we opened our first Holiday Inn in Moscow. In five years we're going to open the world's biggest Holiday Inn in this wonderful city. This deal marks a seminal moment for IHG and shows the progress we are making in this important gateway city.'

The new Holiday Inn will be part of Crocus City, a 90-hectare retail and leisure complex comprising two trade and entertainment venues, three exhibition pavilions and a shopping centre.

IHG recently opened its largest Club lounge in Japan at the ANA InterContinental Tokyo.
