Asian airports 'best in the world'

12 Mar 2009

The Airports Council International (ACI) has released the results of its latest Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey, which suggest that aviation hubs in Asia continue to lead the world in terms of quality and customer satisfaction.

Seoul Incheon in South Korea took top spot in the survey results, followed by Singapore Changi in second place and Hong Kong International in third.

In the regional sections of the study, South Africa's George airport was voted the leading gateway in Africa, while Zurich took first place in Europe and Halifax received the most votes in the North America category.

Some 200,000 questionnaires were filled in by passengers at 108 airports for the survey, covering dozens of aspects of the travel experience.

Angela Gittens, director general of the ACI, said: 'As the industry benchmark of airport service quality, the ASQ survey programme is enabling airports to understand and respond to the needs of their passengers.

'Survey results show that overall passenger satisfaction continues to improve year-on-year. This reflects the importance airports are placing on customer satisfaction and the innovation in services that we are seeing worldwide.'

Southampton airport recently celebrated the fact that the ACI survey named its staff the most courteous in Europe.
