Carnival installs interactive aquariums in US cities

16 Mar 2009

Carnival Cruise Lines is launching a new promotional initiative that will see giant animated aquariums displayed in six cities in the US.

The aquariums, which are located in vacant retail spaces in Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington DC, are designed to engage people in an interactive experience and draw attention to the Carnival brand.

As pedestrians walk by, the fish and plant life in the animated display react to their presence by moving through the water, swaying and creating bubbles.

There are also signs that invite members of the public to dial a number and create their own personalised fish that will appear in the animated aquarium.

Jim Berra, Carnival's senior vice-president of marketing, said: 'The interactive aquariums mirror the essence of the Carnival vacation experience in that they are designed to provide people with highly memorable and spontaneous fun.'

Carnival is the world's largest cruise line by number of ships and itineraries, with voyages operating in regions including the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska and the Mexican Riviera.
