Singapore's Orchard Road has been reopened this week following a S$40m (£18.6m) redevelopment.
According to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the completion of the work, which began in April 2008, reaffirms the destination's status as 'one of Asia's most popular cities for shopping, dining and entertainment'.
New features in the area include atmospheric up-lighting along the street, outdoor 'green rooms' for street events and new facades for existing shopping malls.
The rejuvenation of Orchard Road is part of a S$1.6bn urban renewal plan that will also include the opening of three new malls this year and the construction of a 218-metre-tall skyscraper with a public observation deck.
Divya Panickar, the tourist board's director in northern and western Europe, said: 'More than ever, Orchard Road is a vibrant, trendy and exciting destination in its own right offering a diverse range of shopping options with activities and events to suit everyone.'
The latest Travel and Tourism Competitiveness report from the World Economic Forum ranked Singapore top in Asia and tenth globally on the strength of its tourism industry.
