Flybe finds destination namesakes

20 Mar 2009

Flybe has announced the completion of its search to find people whose names match or are similar to any of the destinations it serves from Glasgow - Benbecula, Kirkwall, Sumburgh, Stornaway, Barra, Tiree, Islay and Campbeltown.

The regional airline found a Kirk Wall in Hampshire, a Tiree Rodden in Inverness and an Islay McVean in Dunbartonshire.

Other people discovered by the search include Sam Burrows from Northamptonshire, whose name shares a similarity with Sumburgh in the Shetland Islands, and Donald Morrison of Country Durham, who uses the internet forum name Ben Becula.

All of the winners of the quirky competition were rewarded with two return flights to any destination in the Flybe network.

Mike Rutter, the airline's chief commercial officer, said: 'We thought our search for these namesakes would be a bit of a tall order but we were bowled over with the phenomenal interest shown in the competition and we thank all those who entered.'

Flybe's services to regional destinations in Scotland are part of its partnership with Loganair, which started in October last year.

The regional carrier operates the majority of its flights from Southampton, offering connections to destinations including Paris, Alicante, Faro and Salzburg.
