Bavarian Alps 'offer value for money'

1 Apr 2009

Holidaymakers should head to Germany's Bavaria region if they want to get good value for money on a European break this year, according to the national tourist office.

The tourist board of Germany said that, alongside outdoor activities such as cycling, climbing, skiing and kayaking, Bavaria provides a host of competitive holiday offers.

Initiatives that travellers can take advantage of include a visitor card in the Alpine destination of Oberstaufen that lets guests in certain hotels use three local golf courses without paying green fees.

More than 300 accommodation providers in the region also offer travel on mountain cable cars, guest buses, free entry to museums and other promotions for their customers.

In Oberstdorf, Germany's southernmost tourist community, travellers can go hiking to reach the Nebelhorn mountain, which offers a panoramic view of some 400 Alpine peaks.

The Bavaria region is located in the south-east corner of Germany and can be reached by taking flights to Munich or the cities of Salzburg and Innsbruck in Austria.
