6 Apr 2009
Travellers planning city breaks in Dublin later this year will have the opportunity to see the world premiere of the stage version of the popular film The Shawshank Redemption.
The new play will have its debut at the Irish capital's Gaiety Theatre on 14 May and will run until 20 June.
Based on a short story by Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption is the tale of a man who is wrongly imprisoned for the murder of his wife and her lover but never gives up hope of winning his freedom.
It is being brought to the stage by Lane Productions, the company behind previous plays including Twelve Angry Men, Alone it Stands and I, Keano.
The performers set to appear in the show include Kevin Anderson, a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, and Reg Cathey, star of the acclaimed television dramas Oz and The Wire.
After the run of The Shawshank Redemption has come to an end, the Gaiety Theatre will host Riverdance, which will come to the venue from 23 June to 30 August.
