First Hotel Indigo opens in Central America

17 Apr 2009

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced the opening of the first Hotel Indigo in Central America in the city of San Jose, Costa Rica.

The 100-room property was opened in Santa Ana, one of San Jose's up-and-coming areas, as part of a global rollout of the boutique IHG brand.

According to the hotel chain, Santa Ana provides an ideal starting point for people planning to explore Central America to visit 'some of the world's most compelling eco-tourism destinations'.

The new hotel has been designed to reflect the tropical climate and natural attributes of Costa Rica, with features including artistic images of flowers, waterfalls, coffee beans and rainforests.

Its location offers access to shopping areas and restaurants, as well as a journey of only 15 minutes to reach Juan Santamaria airport.

Luis Fernandez, president of IHG franchise partner Prime Holding, said: 'We believe the Hotel Indigo model strikes a great balance by providing guests the refreshing design and intimate service synonymous with a boutique along with the consistency, reliability and accessibility of a branded hotel.'

In January this year, IHG opened a new establishment at London Paddington that represented its first Hotel Indigo property outside North America.
