Half of Brits 'want spring sunshine'

20 Apr 2009

Sunshine appears to be the most important aspect of holidays for many British travellers this spring, with a new survey finding that 48% of people want to visit a destination with warm weather over the coming months.

Travel add-ons company Holiday Extras also found that nearly a third (31%) of people are willing to travel overseas this spring, despite the low value of the pound.

Nearly one in five (18%) survey respondents said they would still take a holiday in mainland Europe despite the strength of the euro, while 13% said they would consider a long-haul destination.

A more budget-conscious 21% of people said they would prefer to take a break in Britain this spring.

Mike Whiting of Holiday Extras said: 'I'm not surprised that so many people want guaranteed sunshine this spring and while some people will certainly be choosing to holiday closer to home, tourism abroad is still high on the agenda for most.'

The company announced the results of a survey last month which showed that 54% of British people would be happy to take their mother on holiday with them.
