Scotland launches £1m tourism campaign

28 Apr 2009

Visit Scotland has announced the launch of what it describes as a 'credit crunch campaign' to encourage British tourists to pay a visit to Scotland this year.

The £1m Perfect Day initiative is set to be VisitScotland's biggest ever domestic tourism campaign, with some 36m people across the UK expected to see it.

Britons who have been put off overseas travel by the exchange rate will be targeted by the promotion, which will highlight value-for-money offers available at hotels, attractions and other tourism businesses around Scotland.

The Perfect Day campaign will also inform consumers of the unusual experiences they can enjoy in Scotland this year, such as themed cruises along the west coast or photography tours that take in various land and seascapes.

Scottish tourism minister Jim Mather said: 'This is the biggest domestic tourism drive VisitScotland has ever launched and we want to showcase the best of what Scotland has to offer to tourists right across the UK.

'As people start to look to tighten their belts during these difficult economic times, this is a great opportunity to encourage people to consider the benefits of a domestic holiday in beautiful Scotland, rather than travelling abroad.'

VisitScotland recently announced that it was working closely with key tourism representatives in Orkney to boost the appeal of the island group to travellers.
