Visit Venice for the Biennale art show
28 Apr 2009
The eagerly awaited art section of the 2009 Venice Biennale will open on 7 June this year and will be available for summer visitors to explore until 22 November.
Featuring work by more than 90 artists from all over the world, the Biennale's 53rd International Art Exhibition will be based at the Giardini and Arsenale exhibition venues.
Taking on directing duties for this year's exhibition - which is called Making Worlds - is Daniel Birnbaum.
Commenting on the title of the event, Mr Birnbaum said: 'Making Worlds expresses my wish to emphasise the process of creation. A work of art represents a vision of the world and if taken seriously it can be seen as a way of making a world.'
The 2009 Venice Biennale has already hosted its theatre festival and from 2 to 12 September will present the 66th International Film Festival.
With a history dating back to 1895, the Biennale is one of the world's most prestigious cultural institutions, with a reputation for pushing artistic boundaries and promoting new trends.
