Experience the Midnight Run in Iceland

29 Apr 2009

Icelandair has encouraged travellers to pay a visit to Iceland this year to experience a series of running events starting with the Midnight Run on 23 June.

Taking place under the midnight sun, the race offers 3km, 5km and 10km routes to suit people of all running abilities and invites participants to relax in the Laugardalslaug thermal pools after their exertions.

A more draining proposition is the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon, which will take place along a well-known hiking route on 18 July.

The race takes in two of Iceland's many scenic areas - Landmannalaugar and Thorsmork - meaning it is an impressive and enjoyable event for spectators.

Holidaymakers will be able to see Iceland's running season come to a close on 22 August with the Reykjavik Marathon, which coincides with Culture Night, an evening event featuring live music, street entertainment and fireworks.

Icelandair recently urged travellers to visit Iceland for whale-watching season, with wildlife tours soon to start operating from Reykjavik.
