Try the craze of rap jumping in Melbourne

29 Apr 2009

Adrenaline junkies will have the opportunity to try a new thrill on visits to Melbourne this year.

Tourism Victoria describes rap jumping as 'abseiling forward with a pulse', an activity that invites participants to jump off a roof and propel themselves down a six-storey building.

Jumps take place at the Urban Central building in Melbourne's city centre and are overseen by Peter Mackail, an ex-SAS soldier.

Visitors can head to the location every day - weather permitting - and pay $65 (£32) for three jumps.

Rap jumping is one of many adventurous activities that visitors to the Australian state of Victoria can take part in, along with kayaking, hang-gliding, rock climbing, hot-air ballooning and many others.

Keen hikers can head out onto the Great Ocean Road to set off on a long walk that takes in some of the region's most stunning scenery, while those who prefer to be behind the wheel can go on an off-road drive through some challenging territory.
