Madrid exhibition looks at great modern artist

Travellers visiting Madrid this summer will be able to explore an exhibition focusing on one of the most influential and acclaimed figures in modern art.
A showcase of work created by Henri Matisse will be open at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in the Spanish capital city from 9 June to 20 September.
The exhibition will focus on the period of Matisse's career from 1917 to 1941, during which time his work was greatly influenced by the world war that had just finished and the escalating tensions that would lead to the next conflict.
Matisse created a diverse and dynamic body of work during a career spanning more than half a century, working in media including painting, sculpture and printmaking.
He will not be the only influential artist providing the subject of an exhibition at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza this year, with a display of work by Jan van Eyck opening at the museum on 3 November.
Travellers can visit several other galleries and cultural institutions during a trip to Madrid, including the famous Prado Museum and the Caixa Forum.
