Sun worshippers urged to take early breaks

Holidaymakers looking forward to hitting the beach on their summer breaks this year have been urged to head to Spain and Portugal early in the season to beat the crowds.

According to bmibaby, May and June represent the best time to head to popular holiday hotspots and combine good weather with a peaceful atmosphere.

The most popular destinations for summer travellers include the Balearic islands of Majorca and Menorca, which offer a choice of dozens of beaches ranging from isolated coves to sweeping stretches of coastline.

Travellers planning to stay in mainland Spain can visit popular beaches such as Playa del Postiguet and Playa de la Albufereta in Alicante, while Malaga is known as a watersports hotspot.

The Algarve is home to some of the prettiest beaches in Europe, according to bmibaby, as well as luxury retreats such as Ilha da Barreta and Ilha da Culatra, which are easy to reach and offer a memorable experience.
