There will be some new experiences on offer to tourists in New York this month when a number of refurbished galleries are opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
A major construction project at the museum's American wing has been taking place since May 2007 and will continue until 2011.
The Charles Engelhard court will be among the finished areas opening on 19 May, housing a new display of large-scale sculpture, mosaics, stained glass and other pieces.
Visitors will also be able to see examples of architecture and interior design spanning the past three centuries in the American wing's period rooms, as well as collections of ceramics, glass and silver in the balcony galleries.
Metropolitan Museum of Art spokesman Morrison Heckscher said: 'The goal of the comprehensive renovation of the American wing is to present the museum's superlative collections in the clearest and most logical, as well as most beautiful, manner possible.'
Travellers planning to visit New York before 16 August this year can head to the Met as it presents an exhibition dedicated to the painter Francis Bacon.
