New whisky attraction unveiled in Edinburgh
14 May 2009
The Scotch Whisky Experience, one of Edinburgh's premier tourist attractions, has launched a new tour following a £3m renovation.
Visitors are taken on an updated version of the popular barrel ride on the new tour, which offers an insight into the whisky-making process.
Other highlights include personalised whisky tastings using 'scratch and sniff' aroma cards, sensory rooms and a new demonstration area offering views over the city.
The tour concludes with a visit to a purpose-built vault that houses the Diageo Claive Vidiz Scotch whisky collection, which features more than 3,300 malts and blends that were brought together by a Brazilian businessman over the course of 35 years.
Susan Morrison, general manager of the Scotch Whisky Experience, said: 'This £3m investment has created a 21st century experience for visitors that will inspire and enthuse them about Scotch whisky and its importance to Scotland.
'With everything from the sights, sounds and smells in the fantastic new barrel ride, to the stunning new sensory rooms and demonstration area, there is a modern, fresh feel to the whole visitor experience.'
The Scotch Whisky Experience is located at the top of the Royal Mile, a popular thoroughfare that runs through Edinburgh and takes in attractions including Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Abbey.
