Lonely Planet publishes new Britain guidebook

21 May 2009

Lonely Planet has today (21 May) published a new Great Britain guidebook that offers a fresh perspective on some of the region's travel options.

The guide includes a 'going up' section that focuses on the positive sides of the British tourism industry.

Cities in the Midlands feature in this section of the book, with travellers encouraged to take advantage of the experiences on offer in Birmingham, Lincoln, Leicester and Nottingham.

The Great Britain guide could prove popular with 'staycationers' - British people planning to save money and avoid stress by holidaying in the UK this year.

David Else, coordinating author of the new book, said: 'Staycationers can't afford all the costs associated with holidaying abroad, especially in light of the eurozone being so expensive, and have realised that they can find better value at home.

'Many are also keen to avoid security queues and delays at airports or are interested in keeping their carbon footprint down by avoiding flying.'

Lonely Planet is one of the world's biggest travel guide publishers, offering over 500 titles in English covering countries and cities all over the globe.
