Emirates offering more flights to India

28 May 2009

Emirates has announced that it will launch 22 additional weekly flights to India as part of an ongoing commitment to the country.

The airline said that its additional services are intended to support the Indian government's plans to increase the nation's international visitor numbers to 100m by 2010.

Over the summer and winter periods, Emirates will increase its number of weekly flights to ten Indian gateways to 163.

The main beneficiaries of the increased frequencies will be the popular destinations of Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

Majid Al Mualla, Emirates' senior vice-president of commercial operations in west Asia, said: 'When traditional European markets dried up, India was quick to refocus its trade and marketing efforts in targeting regions not severely affected by the economic downturn such as the Middle East, eastern Europe, Africa and parts of south-east Asia.

'Emirates has a robust global network spanning over 100 cities in more than 60 countries and is well-placed to connect India to the world.'

The Dubai-based airline operates an international network of flights that comprises several destinations in Asia, including Colombo, Mumbai, Singapore and Hong Kong.
