Transfer passengers on stopovers of 12 hours or less at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport are to be offered 'appetiser' tours of the Thai capital.
Set to get underway on 1 June, the tours are being made available to boost travellers' interest in Bangkok and encourage them to return for longer visits in the future.
Thousands of daily passengers will be able to take advantage of the short excursions, which will include boat rides on the Thonburi canals and tours of Bangkok's Royal Palace complex.
As an incentive, transfer passengers who take the tours will not be required to pay the 700 baht (£13) airport tax when checking in for their onward flight from Bangkok.
Weerasak Kowsurat, chairman of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said: 'The campaign will give transfer passengers a chance to enjoy a brief tour of the Thai capital and nearby provinces. By giving them a quick first impression, we hope to encourage them to come back for a longer stay in future.'
Flights to Bangkok are provided by carriers including Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific and British Airways.
