Kitchen Garden trail set up in Scotland

29 May 2009

VisitScotland is offering a new travel option for people planning UK breaks this year with its Kitchen Garden trail.

The route, which has been established as part of the tourism agency's Perfect Day campaign, reflects the growing demand among holidaymakers for seasonal and local produce.

Travellers who follow the trail can find and dine in a number of establishments that only serve produce that has been sourced directly from their own gardens.

The Victorian Kitchen Restaurant at Glamis Castle is one of the eateries participating in the initiative, serving up all sorts of home-grown fruits, vegetables, jams and preserves.

Followers of the trail can also visit Old Manse Bed and Breakfast in Caithness, Castleton House Hotel and many other establishments across Scotland.

The route covers the full extent of the country, from Dumfries and Galloway in the south to Shetland in the north.

People interested in visiting Scotland this year can catch flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and other cities with carriers including British Airways, Flybe and easyJet.
