The New South Wales city of Wollongong, just south of Sydney, is set to open a new visitor centre that celebrates its Aboriginal heritage.
Due to open in June, the Southern Gateway Centre on the Illawarra escarpment features interactive digital displays that explore the indigenous culture of the region.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy views from the centre that take in one of Australia's most impressive coastal stretches.
The centre is one of a number of tourist attractions that have opened in New South Wales following the development of the Grand Pacific driving route, which stretches from Sydney to Wollongong and beyond.
Greg Binskin, general manager of Tourism Wollongong, said that one of the main reasons for the popularity of the route is the Sea Cliff Bridge in Clifton.
'Now in its fourth year, the bridge and drive are a popular choice for visitors wanting to mix a Sydney stopover with a stunning coastal drive and regional tourism experience,' he said.
Other popular locations that travellers can visit during a tour of south-east Australia include Canberra, the country's capital city, and the Tallaganda State Forest.
