Melbourne to boast Australia's largest hotel
3 Jun 2009
Travellers will be booking flights to Melbourne next year to visit Australia's largest hotel.
Crown Metropol will be located opposite the new Melbourne Exhibition Centre and will offer 658 rooms.
The property will have a 'wave-like' shape and a 'striking futuristic design', according to Tourism Victoria. It has been designed by Bates Smart, the architecture firm behind Melbourne's Federation Square.
Visitors will have the option to stay in suites offering panoramic city views or in studios overlooking the bay.
Other highlights of the new Crown Metropol will include Melbourne's only 'sky-high day spa' and a bar on the top floor that will be open to the public.
The hotel, which is due to open in early 2010, will also offer its guests a gourmet dining experience at Gordon Ramsay's Maze restaurant.
People planning to visit Melbourne this year can stay in a number of new luxury establishments in the city, including the Hilton South Wharf in the city's waterfront district.
