Singapore warms up for GP season
9 Jun 2009

Motorsport fans will be treated to a number of special events and activities in Singapore this September as the city-state prepares for its second Formula One grand prix.

The Singapore GP season will run from 18 to 27 September and will feature shopping deals, exhibitions, live performances and more.

Highlights will include Asia on the Edge, an Asian lifestyle festival that will be held at the Arts House and around the Empress Place precinct.

There will also be a performance by pop opera group Il Divo, who will appear at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 21 September.

Margaret Teo of the Singapore Tourism Board said: 'Singapore has the unique advantage of staging a Formula One race right in the heart of the Marina area and in close proximity to Singapore River and Orchard Road.

'Through the Singapore GP season, we want to provide a total race experience for spectators and encourage them to explore our key tourism precincts, which are easily accessible and offer a wide range of lifestyle offerings.'

The Singapore grand prix will be held on the weekend of 25 to 27 September. Following the event in Singapore, there will be three more Formula One World Championship races in Suzuka, Sao Paulo and Abu Dhabi before the end of the season.
