London attractions welcoming more visitors
11 Jun 2009

There was an increase in the number of people visiting museums, galleries and other attractions in London in April this year, according to new figures.

Visit London revealed that some 3.6m people visited attractions in the capital during the month, representing a year-on-year increase of almost 20%.

Paid attractions saw visitor numbers rise by 26% to 1.6m in April, contributing to a total increase of 2% in visitors to all attractions during the three months from February to April.

Visit London said that figures for the fourth month of the year were boosted by warm weather, the Easter holiday period and an increase in European visitors taking advantage of the weak pound.

Sally Chatterjee, chief executive of the tourism agency, said: 'The increase of visitors to London's attractions is a very positive sign and demonstrates that London is still drawing people to the capital despite the economic climate.

'London is the world's most visited international city and our diverse range of attractions remains one of the key draws of the city.'

The most popular tourist attractions in the city include the London Eye, Buckingham Palace and the Tate Modern art gallery.
