Belfast International prepares for 'summer bonanza'
15 Jun 2009

Belfast International airport has revealed that it is preparing itself for a 'summer bonanza' of passenger traffic over the coming months.

More than 1.5m travellers are expected to pass through the Northern Ireland gateway during June, July and August.

A £10m renovation is currently underway at Belfast International, which will eventually deliver a new-look terminal for passengers.

John Doran, managing director of the airport, said: 'We're getting ready to welcome tourists from all over the world as well as witnessing an exodus of mostly sun-loving travellers from ever more distant parts of the island of Ireland heading to global destinations direct from Belfast International.

'Despite the economic gloom, it's clear our customers are determined to have a summer holiday and our airlines are seeing a surge in late bookings as canny travellers seek good deals.'

People travelling from Belfast International airport can catch flights to New York, Toronto, Paris, Barcelona and other destinations with carriers including Continental Airlines, Aer Lingus and easyJet.
