Travellers looking for a new cultural experience this year can catch flights to Brisbane to experience the Ekka, one of Queensland's most popular annual events.

Officially known as the Royal Queensland Show, the Ekka will be held at Brisbane's RNA Showgrounds from 6 to 15 August.

The event, which has a heritage stretching back more than 131 years, is held to celebrate the style and culture of Queensland with all sorts of unusual activities and entertainment.

All of the most popular shows and exhibits will be returning for Ekka 2009, including the 'supersized' Animal Boulevard and a milking barn.

Visitors will also be able to head to the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion to see free cookery demonstrations and sample food provided by some of Queensland's finest local producers.

Entertainment at the festival will include live music, parades, animal shows and much more.

Flights to Brisbane, which is the state capital of Queensland, are provided by airlines including Qantas, Emirates and Cathay Pacific.
