Brits 'will give up luxuries to take holidays'
16 Jun 2009
British consumers are willing to give up luxuries such as going out and buying takeaway coffee if it means they can take a holiday, according to a survey by easyJet.
Nearly nine out of ten (88%) people polled by the low-cost airline said they would sacrifice their morning coffee to fund a holiday, while almost three quarters (72%) would cut back on nights out.
More than half (52%) of the respondents to the easyJet research said they had started buying supermarket own brands in order to reduce their spending.
Some 68% of people said they had no intention of giving up their summer holiday this year and 40% confirmed that they had already booked their break.
Paul Simmons, UK general manager of easyJet, said: 'People are definitely assessing their spending habits and looking at ways to make their pennies go further in 2009.
'The survey demonstrates that people are cutting back on everyday "luxuries" to ensure they can still fund their annual summer holiday.'
The airline increased the range of holiday options available to travellers this year when it launched new flights to Corfu, Athens, Dalaman and Corsica from Manchester airport.
