The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Orlando, Florida will be hosting a number of events next month to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing.

Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins launched the Saturn V rocket from the Kennedy Space Center on 16 July, 1969, landing safely on the surface of the moon four days later.

The 40th anniversary celebrations will get underway on 16 July with a public ceremony at the Kennedy Space Center featuring Buzz Aldrin and several other astronauts, who will speak from underneath a 363-foot-long Saturn V rocket.

On 20 July, a giant moon pie will be presented in the centre's Rocket Garden, standing at 15cm in height and measuring a metre in width.

Holidaymakers visiting Orlando this year will also be able to head to a new exhibit that will open at the Kennedy Space Centre on 16 July.

The Apollo Treasures Gallery will showcase a number of items from the Apollo moon missions, including space suits, helmets and tools.

Travellers can catch flights to Orlando with airlines including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, US Airways and KLM.
