Poland prepares for cycling tour
22 Jun 2009

Sports fans will be heading to Poland this summer to see the Tour de Pologne, the country's biggest cycling race.

Poland's equivalent of the Tour de France will start in Warsaw on 2 August, eventually coming to an end in Krakow, 1,253km away, on 6 August.

The route will take participants to locations including the cities of Bialystok and Rzeszow, the Tatra mountains and the winter ski resort of Zakopane, giving spectators plenty of sites to choose from to watch the action.

Thousands of cyclists and fans are expected to visit Poland for the event.

Ewa Binkin, acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office, said: 'This is a great event for Poland and the atmosphere at the start of the race in Warsaw and on the finishing line in Krakow will be wonderful. There's also the chance to see the cyclists tackle the Tatras in a wonderfully scenic setting.

'The Tour de Pologne is really important in our sporting calendar and has been a regular fixture for the past 80 years. It'll certainly be a very exciting week to visit Poland.'

Flights to Krakow and Warsaw are available with LOT Polish Airlines, British Airways, Czech Airlines and other carriers.
