The national tourist board of Lithuania has welcomed
Aer Lingus' new flights to Vilnius, which will be launched from London Gatwick later this year.
Aer Lingus will initially fly to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, three times a week from 10 September before increasing frequency to a daily service on 24 October.
The airline already serves Vilnius with three weekly flights from Dublin, its main base in Ireland.
Augusta Jaudegyte, director of the Lithuanian tourist office in the UK, said that
Aer Lingus' decision to launch the new service is 'great news'.
She added: 'This year is very special for Vilnius and Lithuania. We celebrate the millennium anniversary of the first mention of Lithuania's name in a historical source and Vilnius is the European Capital of Culture.
'The new, convenient and competitively priced flights will definitely help to attract more tourists from the UK.'
Aer Lingus will be launching new flights to five other destinations from London Gatwick this winter - Bucharest, Eindhoven, Warsaw, Tenerife and Lanzarote.
