Krakow prepares for jazz festival
25 Jun 2009
Music fans planning summer breaks in Krakow this year will have the opportunity to enjoy some live music at the city's annual jazz festival.
Sincopa Jazz Band from Colombia will get proceedings underway in Krakow's old town on 5 July, giving the Summer Jazz Festival a 'truly international flavour', according to the Polish National Tourist Office.
The festival will run until 31 July and will feature performances by groups including the NDR Big Band from Hamburg, the Charis Ioannou Quartet and saxophonist Herb Geller.
Gigs will be based at venues ranging from the town centre and the National Museum to small bars, clubs and cafes around Krakow.
Ewa Binkin, acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office, said: 'Krakow is a very special place and to see jazz music performed against the backdrop of some of Europe's most evocative city scenery is a chance not to be missed.
'There is always a wonderful atmosphere in the city but the last three weeks in July will be extra special as the music takes over.'
People interested in attending the festival this year can catch flights to Krakow with easyJet, British Airways and other carriers.
