Regional airline
Flybe has this week launched new flights to Dusseldorf in Germany from London Gatwick.
The carrier marked its inaugural service to the German city by handing out specially baked souvenir gingerbread biscuits to passengers.
Upon its arrival in Dusseldorf, the flight was greeted by a group of local VIPs.
Flybe said that the new service saw strong forward ticket sales prior to its launch, with high demand from passengers travelling from Germany to connect to the carrier's regional network via London Gatwick.
Mike Rutter, the airline's chief commercial officer, said: 'Our new London Gatwick to Dusseldorf service is of great importance to both
Flybe leisure and business passengers and we've been delighted with our customers' early support.
'
Flybe is gaining a reputation as an airline that bucks the trend in these challenging economic times and the early success of this route is a confident reflection in people seeking out the most affordable travel that also offers a quality service.'
Travellers can also catch flights to Bergerac in France from London Gatwick with
Flybe, as well as destinations such as Newquay, Belfast and Aberdeen in the UK.
