Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts is reportedly seeing a 'resurgence' in its property portfolio across the Americas.

The company, which is part of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), is investing some $250m (£152m) in major renovations at a number of its establishments this year.

One of the biggest developments has taken place at the Crowne Plaza in New York City's Times Square, which has been the focus of an $85m renovation.

The Crowne Plaza Old Town Alexandria in Washington DC has also benefited from the company's recent investment, with improvements to its guest rooms, meeting space, restaurant and lobby.

Gina LaBarre, Crowne Plaza's vice-president of brand management in the Americas, said: 'We've seen a period of incredible growth over the past few years, mostly with conversion properties.

'To become even stronger players in the market, we're elevating the brand a step further through a resurgence of major property renovations.'

IHG boosted its presence in South America this month with the opening of the second Holiday Inn Express property in Bogota, Colombia.
