Low-cost airline easyJet has agreed a deal to run a three-week trial that will see Visitor Oyster cards sold on its flights to London.

The carrier reached an agreement with Transport for London (TfL) to participate in the initiative, which will see travel cards offered to travellers flying in to Gatwick, Stansted and Luton airports.

Those who buy a Visitor Oyster card will be able to transfer directly to the Underground, the Docklands Light Railway, buses and other TfL services as soon as they arrive in London.

If the three-week trial is deemed successful, it will be extended.

London mayor Boris Johnson said: 'Many of us share the experience of arriving in a new city and having our first moments taken up with the baffling process of working out what tickets are needed.

'People flying to London with easyJet can now pick up one of our cards and enjoy the ease, convenience and good value offered by Oyster.'

London Gatwick is easyJet's biggest base in the UK. The carrier's range of services from the airport includes flights to Rome, Marrakech, Sharm el Sheikh and Helsinki.
