Art lovers taking breaks in New York in September should remember to pay a visit to Washington Square Park for its twice-yearly outdoor art exhibition.
The show will be held on the weekend of 5 to 7 September and also the following weekend on 12 and 13 September.
Some 200 artists are given the opportunity to exhibit their work at the display, ranging from young unknowns to established figures on the contemporary art scene.
Visitors to Washington Square Park will see a variety of media and art forms represented at the exhibition, from watercolour painting and sculpture to photography and metalwork.
The show traces its origins back to 1931 when young artists Jackson Pollock and Willem DeKooning displayed their paintings on the sidewalk in an attempt to raise some money for rent.
Travellers visiting New York can also head to institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum to broaden their artistic horizons. Until 23 August this year, the Guggenheim will host a retrospective dedicated to the architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
