Enjoy some jazz in New York
7 Jul 2009
Music fans will be booking flights to New York next month and heading to the city to attend the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.
This event will be held in Harlem's Marcus Garvey Park and Tompkins Square Park, two neighbourhoods where jazz legend Parker once lived and worked.
Every year, the festival attracts some of the top names from the world of jazz to New York to celebrate the genius of the musician after which it is named.
In 2009, the programme will get underway in Marcus Garvey Park on 29 August with performances by the Frank Wess Quintet, Gary Bartz, Jose James and others.
The festival will then move to Tompkins Square Park the following day, presenting free performances by singer Pyeng Threadgill, the Dred Scott trio and a quartet led by acclaimed jazz pianist Cedar Walton.
New York visitors will also be enjoying musical entertainment at the Central Park SummerStage festival this summer, which will run until 16 August.
