Travellers planning to explore the state of New York this summer can take advantage of a promotion offering a third night's stay for free at a number of accommodation establishments.

The state tourist board representing New York revealed that some 250 properties are participating in the 'third night free' offer, ranging from rustic cabins to luxury hotels and lodges.

Lyndsey Thomas, PR manager for the state tourist board's UK office, said that New York has 'something for everyone'.

She added: 'From the beauty and tranquility of the great outdoors to the vibrancy of its cities, New York State features unique destinations, stunning scenery and exciting adventures.

'Whether it's taking a wine tour through the Finger Lakes, lounging by the ocean on Long Island, skiing in the Catskill Mountains, or visiting one of the many cultural sights in the Hudson Valley, any international visitor planning a visit to the Big Apple should venture out into other regions of this fantastically diverse state.'

It was also announced that the state tourist board is teaming up with rail provider Amtrak and Enterprise Rent-A-Car to launch promotions that will make it easier to travel in New York.

Travellers can catch flights to New York City with carriers including Virgin Atlantic, Continental Airlines and British Airways.
