Aer Lingus celebrates travel award nominations
16 Jul 2009

Aer Lingus has celebrated the fact that it has been shortlisted in three categories in the 2009 British Travel Awards.

The carrier has been nominated in the best economy class, best no-frills and best European scheduled airline sections.

Enda Corneille, corporate affairs director at Aer Lingus, said the company was 'thrilled' with its nominations, particularly as the shortlists are drawn up following a vote by the British travelling public.

He added: 'This year has been a significant year for us with the opening of our first international base at Gatwick in April.

'Since then, we have announced plans for further growth with the addition of an aircraft and six new winter routes due to commence from 25 October, to Bucharest, Eindhoven, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Warsaw and to Vilnius from 10 September.'

Aer Lingus is up against carriers such as Singapore Airlines and Emirates in the economy class category and British Airways and Lufthansa in the scheduled airline section.

The winners of this year's British Travel Awards will be announced on 5 November.
