Etihad Airways has opened a new premium lounge in Frankfurt, Germany, the first facility of its kind to be launched by the airline outside the United Arab Emirates.

The lounge covers an area of 275 square metres at Frankfurt airport, providing facilities to cater for up to 50 premium passengers.

Located opposite the gates most commonly used by Etihad for outbound flights, the new lounge offers business workstations, bathroom and shower facilities, a kitchen and other amenities.

Peter Baumgartner, the airline's chief commercial officer, said: 'This is a significant milestone in Etihad's development and we are proud to be opening up this new lounge in Frankfurt which demonstrates another step forward in our commitment to deliver products and services which are of the highest possible standards.

'Our new facility offers a luxurious lounge area in a truly superb environment.'

The lounge opens three hours prior to the departure of Etihad flights.

Frankfurt is one of many European destinations served by the Abu Dhabi-based airline, along with London, Geneva, Brussels, Milan and others.
