Record-breaking development on way in Las Vegas

Record-breaking development on way in Las Vegas
21 Jul 2009

The city of Las Vegas will see a major boost in its appeal as a tourist destination later this year with the opening of CityCenter.

Described by the city tourist board as 'an unprecedented urban metropolis', the property will become the largest private development in US history when it opens in December.

CityCenter will be located on 67 acres of land on the Las Vegas Strip between the Bellagio and Monte Carlo casinos.

The development consists of five hotels and residential properties that will add some 6,000 rooms to the 140,000 already on offer in the city.

One of the biggest components of CityCenter is Aria, a 61-storey gaming property with 4,000 rooms that will be home to a Cirque du Soleil show paying tribute to Elvis Presley.

Other highlights will include the 47-storey Mandarin Oriental tower and the all-suite, non-gaming establishment Vdara.

Travellers interested in visiting CityCenter this year can catch flights to Las Vegas with British Airways, KLM, United Airlines and other carriers.
