Travellers visiting Vancouver this autumn will have the opportunity to join in with a celebration of a traditional Chinese holiday.

The Mid Autumn Moon Festival is one of the two most important occasions on China's calendar, along with the country's famous New Year celebrations.

It began as an event arranged by farmers to mark the end of the summer harvesting season.

In China, the Mid Autumn Moon Festival is an occasion that brings families together to admire the harvest moon and dine together.

People visiting Vancouver this autumn will be able to head to the city's Chinese Garden on 4 October to join in with a celebration of the festival featuring music, story-telling and other family-friendly activities.

There will also be an opportunity to enjoy traditional Chinese pastries known as moon cakes.

The Chinese Garden is located on Carrall Street, about 20 minutes walk from downtown Vancouver. The garden features rocks imported from China, mystical plants and architecture that takes guests back in time to the 15th century.
