KLM receives fourth Boeing 777
26 Aug 2009

KLM has this week received its fourth Boeing 777-300 long-range aircraft, although the new addition is unlike most other planes in the carrier's fleet.

The new Boeing is painted in the silver and dark blue colour scheme of the SkyTeam airline alliance, of which KLM is a member.

All SkyTeam carriers have agreed to paint 1% of their aircraft in the livery to mark the tenth anniversary of the group in 2010.

The new aircraft is also the first to leave the Boeing plant using a new environmentally friendly paint that does not include chromate.

Ype de Haan, KLM's executive vice-president of operations, said: 'Developments such as these in the airline industry fit perfectly into KLM's policy.

'We aim to be the innovative market leader in environmental and climate care.'

KLM has ordered a total of seven Boeing 777-300 long-range planes. The first will operate its first commercial service on 28 August, a flight to Nairobi in Kenya.
