Van Gogh speaks in Amsterdam
27 Aug 2009

People with a passion for art may be interested in catching flights to Amsterdam this autumn to visit a new exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum.

Van Gogh's Letters: The Artist Speaks will be launched at the museum on 9 October and will remain open until January next year.

The exhibition, which will be based in the Rietveld building, offers an insight into Van Gogh as a letter-writer as well as an artist.

Visitors will be able to read a number of quotations from the painter's letters alongside some of his own works and those of his contemporaries, offering a view of Van Gogh's opinions on art.

The display will also include original manuscripts of his letters and sketches of pieces he was working on, some of which have never been displayed in public before owing to their sensitivity to light.

Holland will be hosting a number of high-profile exhibitions this autumn as part of its Art Cities initiative.

Travellers will be able to visit a showcase of work by Cezanne, Picasso and Mondrian at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague or explore an Edward Hopper exhibition at the Kunsthal Rotterdam.
