Passenger growth continues at Dubai airport
28 Aug 2009

Dubai airport has announced that it saw a 12.6% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic in July.

The rate of increase was the highest recorded in Dubai since May 2008 and marked a second consecutive month of double-digit passenger growth following the 10.3% rise noted in June.

Overall, Dubai airport handled nearly 3.77m passengers in July. This contributed to total passenger traffic of 23.1m people recorded in the first seven months of the year.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, said: 'The Middle East continues to demonstrate vibrant growth during the global economic downturn and Dubai International is at the epicentre of that growth.

'The double-digit increases we've seen in the past two months are the direct result of a boost in passenger numbers from Emirates and other long-haul network carriers and continual growth in the low-cost sector.'

Travellers can catch flights to Dubai with Emirates, Virgin Atlantic and other carriers to see attractions such as the Burj Dubai tower and the Burj al Arab hotel.
