Istanbul Biennial to begin this month
1 Sep 2009

Travellers visiting Turkey over the coming months will have lots of opportunities to absorb some culture at the Istanbul Biennial.

The event will begin on 12 September and run until 8 November this year.

Taking place for the 11th time, the cultural celebration will feature more than 120 projects by 69 artists, which will be based at various venues around the city.

Individuals participating in the Istanbul Biennial this year include the artists KP Brehmer, Nam June Paik, Sanja Ivekovic and Hans-Peter Feldmann.

The event is being organised around the theme of 'what keeps mankind alive', which is taken from a song in Bertolt Brecht's The Threepenny Opera.

Also due to take place later this year is Contemporary Istanbul, a major modern art fair that will be held from 3 to 6 December.

Travellers interested in attending either of these events can catch flights to Istanbul with easyJet, British Airways, Turkish Airlines and other carriers.
